Empower
Growth

Buzzing Roots CIC and the local community are laying the foundations for "The Green Space" – a vibrant community outdoor hub destined to become the beating heart of Braunstone Town. This initiative goes beyond merely planting seeds in the soil; it's about sowing the seeds of community spirit, support, and sustainability.

The Green Space is set to offer a plethora of benefits, poised to enrich the lives of community members, including those in vulnerable groups. From supplying fresh produce to the Community Fridge, fostering mental and physical health, to creating a social nucleus for gatherings, education, and skills development, its impact will be multifaceted.

It stands as a testament to what can be achieved when communities come together, promoting inclusion, diversity, environmental stewardship, and, importantly, community empowerment.

This space is not just about growing vegetables; it's about nurturing a vibrant, inclusive community fabric that supports everyone.

"It’s amazing to see Braunstone Town developing a strong community. The new green space project will only make our residents closer. The idea of growing our own sustainable food is the way forward. I am hoping that in the future the green space project will be able to help support the community fridge."

Director of Community Fridge Sadia Soni

"Today I visited Buzzing Roots CIC as Town Mayor at the Community Garden initiative at Ravenhurst primary school. The green space there is an oasis of tranquillity on our doorstep, in our community that will enhance the well being of our wonderful community. This community garden project completely aligns to our town’s sustainability and environment goals, and it was a pleasure to visit such a vibrant and essential project. I highly recommend volunteering, urge the community to donate wood, tools and any equipment that can help dig the beautiful ground there. This is a beautiful asset on our doorstep to be treasured"

Town Mayor Tracey Shepherd

"There has been lots of research to show that being outside amongst nature and in the fresh air supports mental Wellbeing. As well as this, contributing to their own community, connecting with others, learning new skills all help to support Mental health and wellbeing, preventative measures like this help to reduce the impact on Social Services, the Police and the NHS.
When assets like this are offered to the community of Braunstone Town they tend to welcome and embrace them with open arms. Currently the Community Fridge has 50+ residents accessing surplus food each week from St Crispin’s Church, volunteers support this initiative which helps to reduce waste from local supermarkets but also supports local people with food. The Wellbeing Hub which runs fortnightly has a regular attendance of 20+ residents. This shows the willingness for residents to not only help themselves but also to help others as well as their own community. The addition of a Green Space in Braunstone Town would support residents, including families, older people, and residents looking to further their skills and confidence. "
