THE LEICESTER TRAVELING LIBRARY
Make your own mini book workshops at Leicester City Libraries for children, young people and their families 2021- 2022.
Buzzing Roots are inviting children across Leicester to handcraft miniature storybooks at home and post them to their local libraries for a touring exhibition later this year. Throughout summer, children can design and craft their dainty hardbacks and fill them with unique tales and illustrations.
Local library post boxes are waiting patiently for your stories to arrive, so get making!
The Traveling Library project will take these stories on a journey of their own and encourages children in wards across Leicester to take pen to paper and tell their silly tales of lockdown experiences. Endorsing this year’s Summer Reading Challenge theme: Silly Squad, Children’s handmade books will tour Leicester’s libraries!
Watch this fantastic tutorial from the British Library and make your Mini Book. Post it to your local Library so it can start it’s journey to travel Leicester later on this year!
The project is supported by Leicester Neighbourhood Services, Leicester Libraries and Community Centres. It has received Community Ward Funding from Westcotes, Belgrave, Rushey Mead, Fosse, Humberstone and Hamilton which means that these four areas can receive bespoke craft packs to create their books giving equal opportunity to children in a range of communities across the city.
Children from all areas can create their miniature books throughout the Summer period so let Buzzing Roots know if you know a child who has an exciting tale to tell!
The tour of the literary creations will take place in December 2020 to February 2021 and will be concluded at Leicester Central Library. Follow Buzzing Roots on Face Book to hear more about the tour.
