About Us
WHO WE ARE?
Buzzing Roots is a Community Interest Company based in the East Midlands, dedicated to helping communities use their creativity to explore the culture of the built environment and make a positive impact on their lives and the lives of others. We connect people with local cultural and environmental spaces.
Established in June 2020, the organisation works with adults, young people, families, schools, creative practitioners, cultural organisations and local authorities to support community growth and network-building. We consider art, nature and heriatge as positive tools for change – helping people to:

WHY WE EXIST
In 2022, the UK ranked lowest for nature connectedness out of 14 European countries surveyed, as well as ranking bottom for biodiversity, having lost more wildlife than any other G7 country, and has been shown to be one of the most nature-depleted countries on the planet.
Moreover, 45% of adults have reported feeling occasionally, sometimes or often lonely in England, which equates to 25 million people across the country.
When studies have found that people with a high level of nature connectedness enjoy better mental health and are more likely to act in environmentally friendly ways, the implications of isolation and lack of nature connectedness are far reaching.
Buzzing Roots was set up to address these issues by working with local communities across Leicestershire and the Midlands. We work by identifying the needs of different communities and tailoring our activities to suit them. From free wellbeing walks to arts workshops to outdoor art exhibitions, Buzzing Roots has so far engaged over 20,000 local people with its projects since we began in 2020.

We take pride in our ability to connect people with local cultural and environmental spaces, having a positive impact on their lives and relationships with local places. Buzzing Roots holds extensive experience and specialist knowledge in helping people identify with their culture and heritage.
At Buzzing Roots, we focus on people’s capabilities, steering clear of deficit-based thinking. We believe that by involving people in tangible, real-life activities, and fostering creative engagement between local communities, decision-makers and organisations, our project participants can create positive stories and contribute to the growth of their communities. This approach emphasises cultural identity and expression as a route to growth.
Buzzing Roots is well-equipped to deliver projects that serve and benefit local people. Our directors possess lived experience in the communities we serve, enabling us to reach and assist local people in co-creating social change ideas.
